Identification:
Dark blue to brown body and fins. Slightly lighter coloured belly.
Pointed head with an overshot lower jaw.
Very big razor–sharp teeth and a V–shaped tail.
Often has orange glowing eyes at night.
Typical Location:
Near the bottom and midwater
around continental shelves and deep reefs.
Fishing Methods:
Free–lining or bottom fishing with fish fillet or sardine.
Fighting Characteristics:
Ruthless strike followed by quick runs with lots of
direction changes in the deep.
Fishing Khao Lak's Comment:
Not very common in Thai waters.
Best chance to catch one of these is around The Andaman Islands.
"Gecko" has accounted for a 15lb specimen. A huge fish for this species.
