Identification:
Occurs in many different colours, with dark brown
or white being the most common.
Long whiskers and a slightly projecting upper jaw.
Spines of the pectoral fins are rough on the outer edge
and serrated on the inner edge.
Can walk long distances over land.
Typical Location:
In muddy, slow flowing or standing waters
of swamps, ponds, pools, ditches and smaller rivers.
Fishing Methods:
Fishing on or near the bottom with earthworm
shrimps, small fish or maggots.
Fighting Characteristics:
A very calm fish that often swallows the bait,
and stays on the bottom.
