Jungle fishing in Thailand, targeting bucket list species like Giant Snakehead
(Toman), Jungle Perch and Mahseer is an awe inspiring adventure angling
experience. The Giant Snakehead has become a main target for thrill seeking
anglers travelling the world for exciting ferocious predator species. Topwater action
using a variety of surface lures is amongst the most explosive fishing imaginable.
Lure fishing does not get much better than this in freshwater!

Freshwater Jungle Fishing Thailand.

We fish in remote areas across Thailand in stunningly beautiful locations
surrounded by tropical wildlife, birds and plant life. Being at one with nature in your
quest for your quarry with not another person or angler in sight is the way we like
to fish! Our unparalleled catch results speak for themselves. It is common to catch 10
plus fish per day for anglers of average angling ability. Advanced anglers often
greatly surpass this amount of fish. Often the action can far exceed what you would
achieve at commercial fisheries in Thailand.

Beginners are welcome, but ideally they should have basic casting skills. Tuition is
included from beginner up to advanced level casting and retrieve techniques and
knot tying.

We fish in areas no other western anglers fish that are protected by a non commercial,
fishing policy, which in Thailand is very rare indeed! We penetrate as far as you can
go into the jungle along the numerous rivers, in search of our main target species
Giant and Striped Snakehead, Hampala Barb (also known as Jungle Perch),
Thai Mahseer, River Catfish and also the very rare Cobra Snakehead.

Lures, Equipment and Techniques for Jungle Fishing:

The most popular lures that we use are surface lures. After 15+ years of pro
guiding jungle fishing and test fishing hundreds of different ones I am now totally
confident in the lures we use. They will outfish any surface lure Where we fish that
I have seen and perform incredibly well in the right conditions. However jungle lure
fishing is not just all about surface lures, crankbaits play a massive part in certain
situations, as do simple lures like spoons and spinners. Whopper Ploppers,
walking baits and regular popper lures are great for very big snakehead. Spinnerbaits,
chatterbaits, buzzbaits, jerkbaits, rats, frogs, soft plastics, ultra light and lipless
crankbaits all catch fish. We carry a massive selection of all the above lures which
all have upgraded hooks and split rings (Decoy, BKK or Owner) capable of landing
the super strong fish.

The boat is fitted with a fast engine, powerful electric trolling motor and a portable,
castable fish finder. (Deeper Pro+). We fish mainly towards the bank, cover, structure or
snags, but the castable sonar fish finder with GPS mapping is invaluable to locate
showing fish in deep open water.

You are very welcome to bring your own spinning equipment and lures, but make sure
you can cast a 10g lure at least 20m. Mainline should be braid, around PE2
(20-30lbslbs) is just about right.
Flourocarbon leaders are necessary (which we provide) due to the water being
incredibly clear and abrasion resistance qualities being required for wear and tear. My
personal preference is 40lbs for the surface lures and 20lbs for crankbaits / jerkbaits.

We provide both spinning and baitcasting equipment, whichever you prefer. (Please let
me know which type you want to use and what winding hand you require if fishing with
baitcasters).

We use 3000 size spinning reels on the surface lure rods (6.5 ft, 7ft and 9ft) and 4000
size reels on the crankbait rods (7ft). If you prefer to use baitcasting setups, (supplied if
required) we recommend 6.5 - 7.5ft medium action rods, with PE2, (20-30lbs) braid
mainline. The most important factor is that you can cast your lure the required distance
which means we don't have to take the boat too close, which can spook the fish.

Mahseer Jungle Fly Fishing.

When the conditions are suitable we venture out of the boat and walk along the river
banks to reach the fish in places inaccessible by boat. This gives us the best chance to
catch large Hampala Barb, and also the very wary Thai Mahseer in shallow water.

The jungle base camp consists of basic floating raft houses made from locally
obtained sustainable materials that blend in with the environment.
There is no TV or air–conditioning, and this fishing experience is targeted at
adventurous anglers who are looking for the REAL jungle experience and are
prepared to do without luxury home comforts for a few days!
The beauty of the location at the base camp has to be seen to be believed, and waking
up at dawn with the sounds of the jungle around you and the eerie cries from the
Gibbons is an experience that will touch your very soul !

After the days fishing, its time for a great meal, and to relax in the unique atmosphere
of the jungle at night. Even considering the remote location, the food is excellent,
with a variety of authentic Thai dishes made to suit western palates, and there is
always more than enough to go around to say the least!

Giant Snakehead in the jungle.

If we catch a decent sized table fish, the chef is always happy to BBQ it for us.
However we much prefer to catch and release.

Surprisingly, to say you are in the depths of the jungle, there are usually zero mosquitoes
around to bother you, and the rooms do have mosquito nets over the beds just incase.

Our Thai boat captain was born in the area and has lived there all his life. No one has a
greater knowledge of the local wildlife, vegetation and most importantly where the fish are!
He is adept at spotting showing fish and animals from great distances that otherwise
you would surely miss. He is very friendly as are all the staff at the base camp.

Swimming or snorkelling in the warm crystal clear water, is also a pleasure not
to be missed! Kayaks are also availble for your use of free of charge at base camp.

The fishing is challenging, and results can depend greatly on your own casting ability.
However if you follow our guidance and work hard, you will catch fish.
Accuracy is very important as the Giant Snakehead invariably likes to habitant snaggy
areas such as over-hanging vegetation, weedy areas, sunken logs and often stays very
close to the bank. They are very territorial and will often strike at anything that goes
near them, but if you can't hit the spot, your number of strikes will be limited.

(There are also other very important things that you need to do in order to get strikes
and to set the hook that will be explained and demonstrated on the trip).

The equipment we use is top brand and balanced for the lures we use. It does not
take long to get used to, and most anglers soon find it easy to cast with accurately.

When you consider other similar fishing trips available to this, you will find not only
that this is the best priced trip available, but is also the most prolific for good sized
Snakeheads and Hampala Barb, in by far the most beautiful location in Thailand!
